Alarm Systems
The following is intended to be used as a general guideline in reference to Borough Ordinance #1533-91. A copy of the Ordinance is available for public inspection at Borough Hall.
Registration
- All alarm systems operating in the Borough of Manasquan shall be registered with the Police Department. Auto & Boat alarms are exempted.
- Alarm systems will only have to be registered once; however, any change of information should be reported to the Police Department. There will be no fee for registration.
Operation Requirements
- Audible alarms will sound for no more than 10 minutes before shutting off. If not reset, it may sound for one more interval of 10 minutes.
- Automatic dial alarms will be approved by the Chief of Police, as far as message content and telephone number dialed are concerned. Auto-dial alarms will not activate more than three times per alarm.
- Alarms shall not be directed to Police headquarters for system trouble, i.e. power surge, low water pressure, window / door vibration, etc.
- Failure of the system owner or his/her agent to respond to the alarm within 30 minutes may result in an administrative fee of $25.00.
- Each alarm system is allowed five false activations per calendar year before a fee is imposed. The administrative fee schedule is as follows:
- 6th and 7th false alarms = $25.00 per alarm
- 8th and 9th false alarms = $50.00 per alarm
- 10 or more false alarms = $100.00 per alarm
- 15 false alarms in any calendar year could result in a non-response status.
- New alarm systems will be give a thirty-day grace period to correct installation problems and/or system flaws.
