Water Meter Leak Detection Notification

WATER METER CONTINUOUS FLOW NOTIFICATION

Introduction:  As you know, the Borough of Manasquan currently utilizes electronic water meters in all Borough residences and businesses.  The meter technology includes a very valuable continuous flow alarm feature that is centrally monitored.  This allows the Borough Water Division (WD), during normal business hours, to learn, via alarm, that a particular residence or business may have a constant flow of water through their meters.  The current alarm response process includes checking online database and notifying residents via notice left on the door.  If the home is not a year round residence the notification will be sent via U.S. mail.

Proposal:  The WD would like to improve upon this current system by establishing a cell phone/email database of all homeowners who are interested in gaining the added benefit of electronic notification. If the WD suspects an excessive/extreme water usage you will be notified by email and cell phone.  If there is nobody present at the residence at the time of the visit the Borough would resort to email or phone notification Monday - Friday, 8 am to 3 pm .  Of course, this would be particularly valuable to homeowners who may not occupy the residence, who are seasonal occupants or who are away on vacation at the time the leak alarm activates.
