Monmouth County Municipal Open Space Grant Program – 2020 & 2021

The program provides funding to assist municipalities with their local programs of park and open space acquisition and/or development/redevelopment.

Project Scope

  • Curtis Park 
  • 215 East Main Street
  • Block 87, Lot 1

Construction of new playground facilities, including associated improvements and restoration.  Phase 1 consists of the 2020 grant opportunity and Phase 2 will consist of the 2021 grant opportunity. 

  • Playground equipment improvements for ages 2-5 and 5-12 age groups; 
        **Including pieces that are ADA-compliant and barrier-free;  
        **All equipment to be placed in poured in place rubberized surface;
  • New walkway and paver patio areas;
  • Picnic tables and benches;
  • Bike racks and water stations;
  • Fencing surrounding the playground equipment;
  • Landscape Improvements; and,
  • Relocation of monuments and restoration as needed.

Grant Request & Project Cost:

  • Phase 1 (2020 Grant)
        **Total project cost (construction & 10% allowable contingency): $199,100.00
        **2020 Monmouth County Open Space grant award: $90,000
        **Borough Match: $99,550.00
  • Phase 2 (2021 Grant)
        **Total project cost (construction & 10% allowable contingency): $396,456.50
  • 2021 Monmouth County Open Space grant award: $150,000
  • Borough Match: $246,456.50

This project is entering into the bidding phase with an award expected in June.
