Public Warning

The Office of Emergency Management conveys severe weather and emergency public information through the following methods:

Manasquan Emergency Alerts:

Manasquan has implemented a tiered notification system to warn residents of impending storms and evacuation orders.  The 3-phase emergency alerting system integrates telephonic, text messaging, and email notifications into one program to broadcast emergency alerts to residents.

The notification system is utilized to provide voice calls to registered numbers for emergencies which represent an imminent threat to life and/or property including evacuation and/or shelter in place recommendations.  Additionally, the email component of the system is used to convey lower priority alerts which are also posted on the Borough’s AM radio station, Facebook & Twitter.

Residents are encouraged to enroll in the system via the Manasquan Emergency Alerts Registry portal.  Be sure to check off both voice and text alerts, as the most critical warnings will likely be delivered through means of a voice call.

Social Media:

The Borough is increasing its use of social media including facebook, instagram and twitter to relay important emergency information including weather safety and preparedness, storm warnings, evacuation and other emergency information impacting the residents of Manasquan.

Social media is not designed to replace existing infrastructure that disseminates “Short-fused” or time critical warnings from the national weather service such as NOAA Weather Radio and the emergency alert system.

Manasquan’s use of Social Media for emergency information was highlighted by the National Hydrologic Warning Council in 2016.

Flashing Sign System:

Manasquan has a series of electronic signs installed along the three main access roads to the beach, including Main Street, Brielle Road and Stockton Lake Boulevard.

If you see the signs flashing, immediately tune to 1620AM on your home or car radio for emergency information from the Borough of Manasquan.

Radio Station 1620 AM:

Manasquan owns and operates a live AM radio station for emergency purposes 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.  During non-emergencies, weather safety, emergency preparedness and community information is transmitted.   When an emergency impacts our area, the OEM signs will be activated (and sirens sounded if a severe public threat exists) and specific public warnings and/or evacuation notifications will be continuously broadcast on this station.

Emergency Siren System:

When a life-threatening emergency exists and/or evacuations have been issued, the Borough will activate an emergency siren. The warning consists of a distinct siren ring (click here to listen) for approximately 3 minutes combined with a digital voice announcing the emergency action to be taken.

There are four siren locations strategically placed to ensure coverage including Borough Hall, Main Street Bridge, Seawatch Beach and Pompano Lot.

Remember, if you hear the emergency management sirens, immediately tune to 1620AM on your home or car radio for specific instructions from the Borough of Manasquan.

The emergency management siren system will be tested quarterly, between 11 AM and 1 PM, on the first Tuesday of March, June, September and December.
